Who are you and what do you do?
We are Jonna Saarinen and Kangan Arora, both textile designers working from our studio in south London. Jonna is originally from Finland and Kangan from India. We met and bonded over our love for screen printing during our BA degree at Central Saint Martins ten years ago.
What is your favourite item in your studio?
It would have to be our four meter fabric screen printing table. It was donated to us by CSM when they relocated to Kings Cross from Holborn. It holds very special memories for us as we printed our final collections one it – and it took a lot of spanners & WD40 to take it a part and move it, but we did it!
What keeps you guys inspired?
We both draw inspiration from everyday life and things happening around us – it can be something as simple as brilliant packaging or things you find in junks shops. We also look back to our heritage and home countries for inspiration. Jonna loves Nordic folklore and calm beauty of the Finnish archipelago, whilst Kangan is always looking into the amazing colours & traditions of India.
