Welcome to our brand new feature, Ace Space! Basically we have decided it’s time to be nosey and see just where all you wonderful creatives make the magic happen!!…..As in where you make your products…..errr hum! Moving on …. First up is the brilliant Lovely Pigeon, which is the alter ego of designer-maker Kirsty Thomas. She has been kind enough to invite us into her Ace Space. Right snooping time…
Hello I am Lovely Pigeon (aka Kirsty Thomas), an illustrator, designer-maker and occasional shopkeeper. I create jewellery, prints, stationery and homewares. I like geometry, colour, pattern, words… and pigeons.
My studio is in an old fisherman’s net loft and you can see the sea. I often get distracted by the view.
I don’t share my studio with anyone else which is just as well as there is rarely enough clear space for just me! My dream studio-mate would be Lucienne Day – my design heroine.
My studio is full of stuff I have collected from car boot sales, flea markets and auctions… Carltonware ceramics, mid-century design books, kitsch animal masks, antique printing plates, old packaging, vintage office equipment!
No plans for expansion just yet although plans are afoot for a new work-storage wall made from a variety of upcycled furniture. I’m also thinking about turning the downstairs kitchen into a pop-up workshopping space and am hatching plans for another Pigeon Pop-Up Shop later in the year.
Thank you Kirsty! Her studio doors are open twice a year for East Neuk Open Studios in June and November and by appointment at all other times. Why not go say hello! Also don’t forget to visit the Lovely Pigeon shop here.
