Every month our Online Stalls showcase the very best creative sellers. This months theme is “The Power Of Love”, we have 18 talented creatives on show. Be sure to go and peruse the Stalls to find that perfect gift!
How did it all begin?
I got my first commission shortly before I graduated from Falmouth and I decided there and then that I wanted to pursue my illustration as a freelancer. Over the years I’ve shifted from doing exhibitions to making products that feature my work.
What are your all time favourite product you have produced?
I really like the Tearrific and Treemendous greetings cards. Adding smiley faces to inanimate objects amuses me no end!
What is your biggest achievement to date?
Being able to continue with illustration as a business and to have stuck with it for so many years.
What’s your best-kept secret?
I make a mean spaghetti carbonara.
What is your dreams/plan for the future?
I would like to find more local stockists and also hope to find my first international stockist. I think that’d be very exciting. Writing a book about illustration is also a dream of mine but I’m not sure if that’ll ever happen – I was never good at writing at school hence my creative pursuits!
Do you have any top tips to help other creative sellers?
Taking quality photographs is a good start. Professionalism in all aspects of your work as a creative is also important. When you’re presenting your product/work to the public you are representing your brand ideals. Not only does your product need to be well made and aesthetically pleasing, orders need to be shipped promptly. No creative likes the boring admin stuff but if you stay organised and keep on top of it you’ll definitely find it less stressful. And now that the serious bit is over – always remember to be nice! :)
